Cruciate ligament: types, symptoms of injury and treatment methods

The cruciate ligament is a ligament in the knee that connects the bone above and below the knee, and it is one of the most stable ligaments in the knee that keeps it stable during movement, as it helps control the bypass movements and stabilize the knee bones together. When the cruciate ligament is injured, the joint becomes unstable, which affects a person's ability to walk and move normally, and may increase the risk of other knee injuries, such as a cartilage tear.

What is cruciate ligament:

There are two main types of cruciate ligaments in the knee joint:

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL - Anterior Cruciate Ligament):
It is located in the front of the knee joint.
It works to guide and prevent the thigh slipping forward abnormally.
Helps stabilize the joint and improve knee stability during active sports movements and rapid changes in direction.

Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL - Posterior Cruciate Ligament):
It is located in the back of the knee joint.
It works to guide and prevent the thigh slipping back abnormally.

Helps stabilize the joint and improve knee stability during active sports movements and rapid changes in direction.
The anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are an important part of the structure of the knee joint and contribute to its stability and proper movement. Injury or rupture of either ligament can require treatment and medical care to restore stability and knee function.

There is a group of ligaments that hold the knee in place called cruciate ligaments, and these ligaments are sometimes torn, especially when playing some types of sports such as football, skiing, or when making a sudden change in knee movement.

What is the solution?
Treatment needed for ligament rupture varies depending on the severity of the condition; in mild cases, comfort with physical therapy may suffice, but severe cases require surgery to replace the torn ligament. "

Cruciate ligament injury

Cruciate ligament injury represents more than three football injuries, so many are interested in methods of treating cruciate ligament injury, and it is strange that women are 3 times more likely to have cruciate ligament injury than men, but it gets worse if the cruciate ligament injury recurs again after the treatment stage, so the injury must be rehabilitated and treated well to ensure that it does not recur, and sometimes the cruciate ligament injury may need surgery to restore the entire knee function, and it depends on The severity and degree of injury. Cruciate ligament injury can be treated through physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs, as this helps increase range of motion and muscle flexibility and work to strengthen them faster than other methods.

How to get a cruciate ligament?

Cruciate ligament injury is usually caused by certain movements that cause excessive stretching or spraining of the knee, resulting in rupture or damage to the anterior or posterior cruciate ligament. Common causes of infection include:

Sudden stop:
Detour or rotational movements
Falling or jumping the wrong way
Direct blow to the knee
Accidents
Factors that increase the risk of cruciate ligament injury:

Weakness of the quadriceps : reduces the required stability and support of the knee.

Muscular imbalance: when some muscles are stronger than others around the knee joint.

Slippery floors: Like playing on wet or unstable floors, it may increase the risk of knee sprain.
